About LitMark
We find it. You write it. Nothing fake.
LitMark is a research and citation tool built for students — not another AI tool that writes your essay for you, but one that helps you find, evaluate, and honestly cite the real evidence behind it.
What it actually does
- Find sources — search real academic papers for your assessment question — free to read by default, with an option to include papers without free full text (shown by abstract, with a link to check your library) — with the most relevant sentence (sometimes two, when a paper genuinely has more than one) highlighted for you, along with an honest Suitability score.
- For & against — turn a claim or hypothesis into a genuine two-sided view: real evidence supporting it, and real evidence that challenges it, side by side.
- Database Search — turn your question into a ready-to-paste, properly-structured Boolean search query for the database your course uses — PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, EBSCOhost, Ovid or Google Scholar — with the right terms, synonyms, and that database's own field tags.
- My folders — every paper you save gets automatically organised into a folder by the question it came from. Copy a full bibliography for a folder in APA, Harvard, MLA, Chicago, Vancouver or IEEE in one click, download a folder as a Word document or PDF, or ask LitMark to summarise, in its own words, what a saved paper actually offers for your specific question.
- Check my citations — paste (or upload) your finished essay, and LitMark checks every citation against the actual source it points to — even papers you can't read the full text of, since we verify against the real abstract (and parts of the full text where it's openly available). Each citation is tagged faithful, overstated, misrepresented, fabricated or unable to verify, and LitMark says plainly when it can't check something rather than guessing. Your essay is never stored. Catches a fabricated or misrepresented citation before your professor does, not after.
- Hit the Mark — upload or paste your marking criteria and your essay, and get a plain, criterion-by-criterion read: hit, partly there, or missing, with a clear reason grounded in what your essay actually says. A missing piece of evidence pulls real papers to fill it; a referencing issue routes straight to Check my citations. Never a predicted grade — just what's actually there, and what to do about it.
- Ask Vera — LitMark's built-in assistant, for a quick question about how something works, what a result means, or what's in one of your folders, without leaving the page. Vera answers from what's actually there, and won't write any part of your essay either.
Pricing
LitMark is £6/month or £45/year (a saving of £27), with a 7-day free trial on either plan — you're not charged until the trial ends, and you can cancel any time before that from your account.
Why it's built this way
LitMark never writes your argument, your analysis, or your essay's prose for you — that stays entirely yours, which is also exactly why using it doesn't put your own writing at risk of being flagged as AI-generated. What LitMark does is the research legwork: finding real papers, pointing you at the exact relevant passage, and checking that what you're citing actually says what you think it says.
Search results are drawn from OpenAlex, Semantic Scholar, Europe PMC, CORE, DOAJ, Crossref and ERIC — real, citable academic sources, open access by default, with papers that lack free full text included only if you choose to see them.
Who's behind it
LitMark is an independently built, small project — not a large company. If you spot something wrong, have a suggestion, or just want to ask a question, get in touch below.
